How I prepare for a Doctor’s appointment with my brain fog activated

STEP 1: Get a symptom tracker

First step is to track my symptoms. On a free symptom tracker because who can even afford another subscription or even one. This way I will be aware of symptoms that are bothering me or abnormal and when they started.

STEP 2: Forget to use the tracker

Of course, I have 900 apps so I will almost immediately forget to use that tracker.

STEP 3: Jot symptoms down

I will instead jot down symptoms haphazardly and randomly in my planner that I use sometimes. And not always. But sometimes. And in this way I can go back and sort of see that something happened and at what time. And give my doctor a sort of vague notion of what is going on based on it and my poor memory.

STEP 4: Make the appointment

Of course, once I have a symptom that I deem important enough to make an appointment, I make an appointment. OR I need refills and will make an appointment for refills and will use that time to squeeze in a quick update on symptoms I have forgotten to mention for months.

STEP 5: The list

I will make a careful list for my appointment on the most important things I need, absolutely need to discuss with my doctor for the appointment. Ranking them by most important first. Because, most important is all that will be covered in that short amount of time. But maybe I will toss out a ‘and also this sucks, see ya!’

STEP 6: What list?

90% of the time I will forget the list and wing it.

STEP 7: Shit, the appointment

Occasionally, I will forget to set a reminder for the appointment and be quite surprised by the day of. If it is a phone call appointment- surprise phone call! If it is in person- oops.

And somehow I still manage to get my medications refilled at a reasonable time, most of the time. Sometimes I run out. And get my healthcare needs taken care of aside from lingering symptoms I keep forgetting to mention… Yeah, it all gets done eventually.
