Please don’t say that, Part II

“This too shall pass”

When I think it to myself

Sometimes I like it because it reminds me, personally, that all pain comes and goes. Ebbs and flows. All emotions come and go. Ebb and flow. Nothing stays the same. Everything changes with time. And all that.

That is comforting in a moment of high pain. To know it will pass. Or heightened emotion that comes with pain. Or thick, heavy fatigue. Or any symptom. Or a brutal migraine. To know it will not last forever. Everything passes. Nothing lasts.

I am just a endless process of experiences.

When other people say it

But I don’t like it when someone else tells me this. Because as an all-encompassing sort of thing to say ‘This too shall pass’ well, what the heckballs do you mean?

Chronic pain? Chronic Illness? I think you fail to understand what chronic means. It will pass. And then come back. And the high pain will pass, into lesser pain, but pain nevertheless. So I’m not sure what they mean. It could be the same thing I mean. It could be they have no clue what I am talking about and have no idea I have chronic pain. Maybe. Who knows. Or maybe that life itself shall pass. How should I know. Because, yes, that will pass and then, well, no worries then. But let’s not hurry on that one.

I mean, if someone with chronic health issues told me this, I would get they basically mean the same thing I do. But anyone else, and you might want to be specific on that one.

So I suggest you clarify.

Like these examples:

  1. This too shall pass, like a kidney stone
  2. This too shall pass, into some other bullshit.
  3. This too shall pass, and then come right back at ya, like a boomerang
  4. This too shall pass, like a hurricane
  5. This too shall pass, and this, and this, and also this, this too shall also pass, also this next thing, then this too shall pass, then onto this thing here… until death do us part with this process.
  6. This too shall pass, oops not yet, not yet, er, not yet, sometimes soon, umm, it will pass sooner or later.
  7. This too shall dim somewhat then get stronger, then dim somewhat, then get strong, them lesser again, then so much stronger, then a bit less, then way strong, then much lower for a short time, then stronger, then it will simmer down for a bit and then, well, you get the point.
